To celebrate its 21st birthday, Kona Brewing Co. will be brewing a new series of draft-only beers that will only be available to residents on the island of Hawaii.

The Makana Series — which translates as to give — will include four different beers released in 2015 that will be inspired by the four elements of nature: Earth, Fire, Water and Wind. In addition, each of the four beers will “incorporate local Hawaiian ingredients derived from the elements themselves,” and each release will be linked with a non-profit organization working to restore and preserve the island’s natural resources.

”We are so proud that we can bring together the two things Kona Brewing Co. does best, making great beer and giving back to the community.” said Aaron Marion, Kona’s brand manager, in a press release. “We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate our 21st birthday than to say mahalo to those that work towards the greater good of our island home.”

The first release in the Makana Series will be named Aina Brown Ale, and will incorporate taro root into the brewing process to pay homage to the Earth. Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii was chosen as the non-profit partner for this specific beer, and as part of the project, will receive a $10,000 donation from Kona Brewing. In addition, the brewery will host launch parties for each of the beers, and all of the profits from both the admission tickets and any merchandise sold at the first event will be donated to Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii with a final goal of at least $50,000.

According the Kailua-Kona, Hawaii-based brewery, Aina Brown Ale will debut at the Kona Brewhouse Oasis on Jan. 24, and will be available at other bars and restaurants throughout the island of Hawaii immediately following on Jan. 26. The other three beers in the Makana series are scheduled to be sold starting in April, July and October, and each will be available for roughly three months, or until supply runs out.
