Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales out of Dexter, Mich. celebrated Leap Day yesterday with the release of its Oro de Calabaza Grand Reserve Leap Year-Leap Biere release.
The Grand Reserve is a blend of five different batches of oak barrel-aged Oro de Calabaza.The oldest batch used in the Leap Biere release was put into barrels on July 29, 2013 while the youngest was put into barrels on Feb. 4, 2014. The Grand Reserve was then transferred into bottles to condition in May 2015.
The base Oro de Calabaza beer is available year-round and is a 8 percent ABV, Artisan wild ale, brewed in the tradition of France and Belgium’s strong golden ales.
Beginning at 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 29, bottles became available at Jolly Pumpkin pubs in Traverse City, Ann Arbor, Detroit, and Dexter. Bottle limit is two per person.
