A new collaboration between Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales and Monkish Brewing Co. is named after a particular phobia.

The beer is named Apocolocynposis, a 4.3 percent ABV sour ale brewed with both blackberries and lime. The ale’s name refers to the fear of turning into a pumpkin, a fruit which is included in the Dexter, Mich.-based brewery’s logo and is also a reoccurring theme on the brewery’s labels.


This is the third time that the two breweries have collaborated, after they forces for Cucurbitophobia (6.1 percent ABV) last year as well as a saison infused with blood orange and with Himalayan salt that was brewed at Torrance, Calif.-based Monkish Brewing in 2015.

According to filings with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), Apocolocynposis will be packaged in 750ml bottles. An email sent to both breweries was not immediately returned.
