Jester King Brewery’s most famous sour beer is being released again this weekend, but there are some major changes concerning the sale in store for fans.
The Austin-based brewery will be releasing 2020 Atrial Rubicite, a 6.9 percent ABV barrel-aged sour beer brewed with malted wheat and pilsner malts as well as golding hops before being refermented with 6 pounds per gallon of raspberries in oak barrels “for roughly a year.” However, while the ale has historically been sold in 500ml bottles, this year marks the first time that Atrial Rubicite will be packaged in750ml bottles as well as 1.5L magnum bottles and 32-ounce crowlers.
Originally released in late August of 2013, Atrial Rubicite was Jester King’s first barrel-aged sour to incorporate fruit. Since then, there have been eight additional releases, with the last incarnation released on May 3, 2019.
According to a post on Jester King’s Facebook page, 2020 Atrial Rubicite will be packaged in 750ml bottles ($35) and 1.5L bottles ($75) with purchase limits of 12 bottles and one bottle per person respectively. In addition, the beer can be purchased online at this link starting on June 15 at noon and proxies will be allowed. There are 5,450 750ml bottles and 301 1.5L bottles available to be purchased, while 32-ounce crowlers of Atrial Rubicite will be sold starting on June 18 with a purchase limit of two per person.
