On Friday, the first beer that Jester King Brewery fermented entirely in oak is making a return.
The beer is Buddha’s Brew, a 4.7 percent ABV farmhouse ale blended and refermented with Classic Kombucha from Austin-based Buddha’s Brew at a ratio of 90 percent beer and 10 percent kombucha. This is the second time that the beer has been bottled, after the brewery released the debut batch on Sept. 15, 2012.
“Buddha’s Brew…harkens back to the early origins of Jester King Brewery” reads a post on Jester King’s Facebook page. “Its first incarnation was a homebrew experiment where I tossed dregs from Buddha’s Brew Classic Kombucha into a batch of beer at bottling to see what would happen. After about a month of bottle conditioning, the beer had been fundamentally transformed by the microbes in the kombucha and became something entirely unto itself. This homebrew experiment provided the inspiration for Buddha’s Brew Batch 1.”
According to Jester King, the second batch of Buddha’s Brew will be packaged in 750ml bottles ($14) with approximately 4,000 bottles available and will have a three bottle per person per day limit when it goes on sale on Oct. 14.
