A new Nocturn Chysalis is coming just in time for Memorial Day.
Jester King Brewery has announced that it will be selling a new beer named Gin Barrel Nocturn Chrysalis when it opens on Monday. As the name indicates, the 7.4 percent ABV sour beer uses the Austin-based brewery’s Nocturn Chrysalis (5.7 percent ABV) as a base before aging it in gin barrels sourced from Revolution Spirits Distilling Co. in Austin for a total of 10 months.
The new incarnation of Nocturn Chrysalis uses the same barrel-aged sour beer refermented with 4,000 pounds of Marion blackberries from Oregon that was brewed in 2014, aged in oak barrels for “about a year” and released in June 2015.
This is only the second time that Jester King has packaged a beer in 330ml bottles, after Sherry Barrel Atrial Rubicite, a 7 percent ABV sour beer refermented on raspberries and aged in a single 500l Spanish sherry barrel for 15 months was released in Sept. 2015.
According to a post on Jester King’s website, Gin Barrel Nocturn Chrysalis is packaged in 330ml bottles ($14) and there will only be 550 bottles available when it goes on sale on May 30 with a one bottle per person limit.
