Last year, Jackie O’s Pub & Brewery and Side Project Brewing joined forces on a barrel-aged stout that combined a popular creation from each of them and this year, there will be two different versions.
The first is Bourbon Barrel Appervation 2018, a 13.5 percent ABV imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels for between 12-14 months; while the second variant is Port Barrel Appervation 2018, an 11.3 percent ABV imperial stout aged in port barrels for 12 months.
Both of the different versions of the barrel-aged stouts have been pasteurized and have “passed extensive QC and lab testing.”
As the names suggest, the stouts are actually a blend of one of each brewery’s signature stouts: Jackie O’s Dark Apparition Russian imperial stout (10 percent ABV) and Side Project’s Derivation imperial stout (15 percent ABV.) The first incarnation of Appervation debuted at both Jackie O’s Taproom & Brewery and Jackie O’s Brewpub & Public House last May packaged in 375ml bottles ($15.99) and featured a 12 bottle per person limit.
According to a post on Jackie O’s Facebook page, both Bourbon Barrel Appervation 2018 and Port Barrel Appervation 2018 will be packaged in 375ml bottles ($15.99) when they are released at Jackie O’s production brewery facility on Sept. 14. Bourbon Barrel Appervation 2018 will have a 12 bottle per person purchase limit with 480 cases available while Port Barrel Appervation 2018 will have a two bottle per person purchase limit with 90 cases available.
