Record Store Day falls on April 21 this year and Jackie O’s Pub & Brewery has teamed up with The Answer Brewpub to release a beer commemorating the occasion.
The two breweries have joined forces on Orange Crates, an 8.1 percent ABV Belgian-style blonde ale fermented with yeast from Belgium-based Brasserie De Bastogne before being dry-hopped with Mandarin Bavaria hops. The ale was then conditioned on brettanomyces claussenii for two months before being bottle conditioned with the same yeast for an additional nine months.
Record Store Day was founded in 2007 as “a celebration of the unique culture of record stores and the special role they play in their communities.” According to Brad Clark, director of brewing operations for Jackie O’s, the name of the beer refers to “the orange crates used to bottle condition Orval. Also a knod to record collecting/digging.”
In an email, Sophia Karageorge, event and marketing coordinator at Jackie O’s, told Tenemu that Orange Crates will be packaged in 500ml bottles that are scheduled to be released on April 21 exclusively in the state of Ohio, with only 252 cases available.
In addition, Jackie O’s will be hosting a record swap and sale at the brewery’s taproom on April 21 for the release and to celebrate Record Store Day.
