Hoppin’ Frog Brewing Co. and Dry & Bitter Brewing Co. have collaborated on a beer that incorporates a spice rarely used in brewing.
The beer is Old School Baltic Porter: American-Style, a 10 percent ABV Baltic-style porter brewed with black pepper to be “reminiscent of the original Baltic Porters, with many layers of roasted and toasted and caramelized malt flavors.”
The porter is being brewed at Dry & Bitter in Copenhagen, Denmark, and is one of three different beers being released in Hoppin Frog’s 2016 European Tour Collaboration Series. The series, which started in 2012, is composed of beers brewed by Hoppin’ Frog brewmaster Fred Karm and other breweries across Europe.
There will be three different beers involved in this year’s series, including 5-Alarm Chili Beer: American-Style, an 8 percent ABV ale incorporating chili peppers, cumin, cocoa and cinnamon that is being brewed wth Siren Craft Brew of the U.K.
According to an email sent by Hoppin’ Frog, Old School Baltic Porter: American-Style will be packaged in 22-ounce bottles ($9.99) and will have a two-case per person limit when it goes on sale at the Akron, Ohio-based brewery on Aug. 13.
