Heavy Seas Beer is firing a shot across the bow by releasing a new seasonal release in cans.
Named Smooth Sail, the American wheat ale comes in at 4.5 percent ABV and is brewed with 20 percent malted wheat, dried orange and lemon peel. The new beer also incorporates warrior, hallertau and cascade hops along with two-row, wheat malt and carapils malts.
“Smooth Sail Summer Ale is a beer that has been in development for quite some time,” said Chris Leonard, Heavy Seas’ brewmaster, in a press release.
“The goal was to produce a light, refreshing, flavorful beer that appeals to active folks and will become an integral part of warm weather fun. We’ve employed a neutral strain of “wheat” yeast to produce a clean tasting beer that is delicate on the palate. American hops are introduced late in the boil to impart a crisp flavor dimension. Finally, dried orange and lemon peel went into in our hopback to provide a fruity, citrus aroma – without adding sweetness.”
Smooth Sail will be packaged in 12-ounce cans and will be released in April. It will then be available through September in the 18 states where Heavy Seas is distributed.
