A new collaboration between Harpoon Brewery and Big Spruce Brewing is meant to celebrate an annual act of kindness from Nova Scotia to the people of Boston.

That beer is Barrel-Aged From Nova Scotia With Love, an 8 percent ABV Abbey-style ale brewed with cherrywood and oak smoked malts and “a touch” of spruce tips before being aged in for an “extended” amount of time in barrels that previously held Glen Breton Single Malt Whiskey.

The ale is being brewed to commemorate the yearly tradition whereas the province of Nova Scotia presents the city of Boston with its official Christmas tree to thank it for “its quick aid after the devastating Halifax Explosion on Dec. 6, 1917.”

According to a label filed with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), Barrel-Aged From Nova Scotia With Love will be packaged in 16-ounce cans.

An email sent to the brewery for additional information was not immediately returned.
