Barrel-aged beer fans should take note, Green Flash Brewing Co. has an exciting beer awaiting your cellars. Divine Belgique is a bottle-conditioned trippel ale. Brewed with Czech Saaz and Styrian Golding hops, the beer is then combined with Trappist yeast and aged in barrels. This aging results in an ale weighing in at 9.7 percent ABV, 22 IBU.
This trippel is part of the San Diego brewery’s Cellar 3 Series that showcases its brewers’ more exotic, limited offerings. A brewer selects an already produced beer, adds more ingredients like yeast or bacteria and then the beer is aged in barrels. Not just the usual wine or bourbon barrels are used; any barrel that has had a spirit in it is fair game for this series whose aim is to explore new beer/barrel combinations to discover new flavors. From ales aged in red wine barrels to sours aged in barrels with fruit puree.
No official release date has been revealed by the brewery as yet for this limited trippel.
Per the recently approved Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) label, this ale is due to be brewed in August 2016. An email sent to the brewery for additional details was not immediately returned.
