Goose Island Beer Co.’s Clybourn Brewpub will have an extra special present for fans just in time for Christmas.

The Chicago-based brewery will be releasing bottles of Barrel-Aged Big Lazy Joe, an 11.5 percent ABV imperial brown ale that has been blended with Ugandan coffee sourced from local neighbor Big Shoulders Coffee before being aged in bourbon barrels for approximately 10 months. The new beer uses Goose Island’s Big Lazy Joe imperial brown ale (10.5 percent ABV) as its base, although that specific beer was only released on draft earlier this year and incorporated Black Cat Project espresso sourced from Intelligentsia Coffee.

Barrel-Aged Big Lazy Joe will the fourth and final bottle release from the Clybourn Brewpub this year:

  • Cthulhu (12.2 percent ABV) — imperial oatmeal stout — March 2016
  • Barrel-Aged Dark Crusader (11.5 percent ABV) — barrel-aged imperial stout— May 2016
  • Ground Control (8.5 percent ABV) — English strong ale — November 2017
  • Barrel-Aged Big Lazy Joe (11.5 percent ABV) — barrel-aged imperial brown ale — December 2016

In a phone call, Jon Nagasaki, head brewer at Goose Island Clybourn, told Tenemu that Barrel-Aged Big Lazy Joe will be packaged in 750ml bottles ($35) with only 400 bottles available and is scheduled to be released in December at the Clybourn brewpub in Chicago with a one bottle per person limit.
