For the first time, craft beer lovers will be able to walk into a store and buy bottles of beer Funky Buddha’s Hop Gun IPA, at least in South Florida.
The Oakland Park, Fla. brewery has announced that it will be distributing some of its beers to major retailers throughout Broward, Dade, Palm Beach, and Monroe Counties beginning on Dec. 10. The first beers to be distributed will be six-packs of 12-ounce bottles of the brewery’s best-selling Floridian Hefeweizen and Hop Gun IPA.
“The launch of package is a huge leap in our growth as a company and a dramatic step forward for the evolution of craft beer in South Florida,” said KC Sentz, general manager and co-owner of Funky Buddha Brewery, in a press release. “Our customers have been demanding this for a long time, so the fact that they will finally be able to walk into a store and purchase a six-pack of our beer is an extremely proud moment.”
Other seasonal beers will follow, including Zen Session IPA and Last Snow Porter in January as well as Nib Smuggler Chocolate Milk Porter, More Moro Blood Orange IPA, Blueberry Cobbler Ale, and Sweet Potato Casserole later in 2015. Also included in the plans are limited 22-ounce releases like Maple Bacon Coffee Porter, which is scheduled for release at the brewery on Jan. 10.
The distribution plans have been in process since February, when Funky Brewery started a $3 million expansion that increased its production space by 21,000-square-feet, as well as “introducing technical upgrades to the infrastructure of the facility, and a host of new equipment – including a bottling line from industry leaders CFT and a centrifugal separator from Westfalia Group.” The equipment will allow the brewery to produce over 600,000 cases of beer by the end of 2016.
Distribution is scheduled to reach Orlando, Tampa and some northern Florida markets by the end of 2015.
