Funky Buddha Brewery will be releasing three different barrel-aged versions of one of its most popular stouts today.

As their names indicate, “Morning Wood: Louisville”, “Morning Wood: Lawrenceburg” and “Morning Wood: Over Proof” all use the Oakland Park, Fla.-based brewery’s Morning Wood as its base, a 12 percent ABV imperial porter brewed with coffee, maple syrup and smoked salt. While Funky Buddha is declining to confirm which brands of barrels the beers have been aged in, each of the three 13 percent ABV variants have a letter stamped into the wax on top of the cap to indicate which barrels were used: “Louisville” is marked with a B, “Lawrenceburg” is marked with an R and “Over Proof” is marked with a T.

Morning Wood is the barrel-aged version of Funky Buddha’s “Wide Awake It’s Morning” aged in barrels that previously held Heaven Hill and Buffalo Trace bourbon, which in turn is the imperial version of the brewery’s “Maple Bacon Coffee Porter”.

John Linn, brand director at Funky Buddha, told Tenemu in an email that each of the variants aged in their respective barrels for approximately eight months, and that there will be “less than 250″ bottles of each available, all of which will be packaged in 22-ounce bottles ($30) and will have a one bottle per person total purchase limit when it goes on sale today.

In August, Funky Buddha was acquired by Constellation Brands, Inc. as part of its Craft & Specialty Beer Group, which also includes Ballast Point Brewing Co.
