Funky Buddha Brewery will once again be releasing a new ale “inspired by the classic Puerto Rican holiday drink” this October.
That beer is Coquito, an 12 percent ABV imperial cream ale brewed with cinnamon, coconut, lactose sugar, vanilla, and aged inside of Caribbean rum barrels. The profile of the new beer was inspired by the traditional coconut-based Christmas beverage of the same name that originated in Puerto Rico.
The beers in this year’s Mixology series that “recreates classic cocktails by using alternate fermentables, natural ingredients, and barrel-aging techniques” include:
- Old Fashioned — Ale brewed with barley, rye, and corn before being aged inside High West bourbon barrels and finished with orange peel and cherries
- Paloma — Tequila barrel-aged tart ale brewed with grapefruit, lime, agave, and sea salt
- Coquito — imperial cream ale brewed with cinnamon, coconut, lactose sugar, vanilla, and aged inside of Caribbean rum barrels
According to Funky Buddha’s website, Coquito 2020 will be packaged in four-packs of 12-ounce bottles that are scheduled to begin shipping to retailers across the brewery’s distribution network in October.
