According to filings with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), Funkwerks Inc. will be releasing Barrel-Aged Tropic King, an 8.3 percent ABV imperial saison brewed with Rakau hops and Munich malts before being aged in whiskey barrels. The new beer uses the Fort Collins, Colo.-based brewery’s year-round saison Tropic King (8 percent ABV) as its base.
This is the third time that Tropic King has been aged in barrels and packaged, after Funkwerks released Tropic King aged in Leopold Bros. peach whiskey barrels in both 2014 and 2015.
Barrel-Aged Tropic King will be packaged in 750ml bottles and will be bottled on April 14. An email sent to the brewery for additional information was not immediately released.
