Founders Brewing Co. has announced through social media that the 2014 version of its Backwoods Bastard will be released to distributors on Nov. 3.
Some of the 10.2 percent ABV scotch ale was brewed over 500 days ago, May or June of last year, and has been aging in oak bourbon barrels until it was ready to release. While total production numbers were not available, the brewery told Tenemu that “we did age substantially more Backwoods Bastard this year than last year.”
The suggested retail price for a four-pack is $14.99, and it will be distributed to the brewery’s 33-state distribution network.
Backwoods Bastard is one of the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based brewery’s four annual Limited Series releases, which also includes Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) released in April, Devil Dancer triple IPA released in June and Harvest Ale released in October.
The increase in Backwoods Bastard production is consistent with the overall targets for Founders, who says it will ship 200,00 barrels of beer this year and expects to ship 300,000 barrels in 2015. While no new markets are scheduled to be opened in 2014, the brewery will start looking at new distribution targets in mid-2015.
