Founders Brewing Co. has announced a brand new series that will debut next year, but the first beer will be a creation that fans have seen before.

That beer will be Nemesis, an 11.2 percent ABV barleywine-style ale brewed with roasted malts and “no shortage of hops.” The barleywine will be the debut release in Founders’ Bottle Shop Series, which the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based brewery describes as “a tribute to when craft brewers first pushed the limits of brewing…when beer drinkers sought big flavor and refined quality above all else” and will be for “the beer connoisseur who settles for nothing less than the very best.”

There have actually been two different releases using the Nemesis moniker: the first release in 2010 was a 12.5 percent ABV “maple bourbon barrel-aged wheatwine” that was aged in bourbon barrels that were once used to hold maple syrup from Michigan for approximately nine months before being bottled.

The second release—also in 2010—ended up being a 12 percent ABV American “dark barleywine” brewed with five different malts and “no shortage of hops.”

According to a post on Founders’ website, Nemesis 2021 will be packaged in four-packs of 12-ounce bottles that are scheduled to be released in April 2021.
