As has been the case for the past 14 years, Founders Brewing Co. will be releasing KBS, and locals will have a chance to purchase it a week before the rest of the nation.

First released in 2004, Kentucky Breakfast Stout is a 12.2 percent ABV imperial breakfast stout that has been brewed with “a massive amount” of both coffee and chocolate before being aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels for an entire year in old gypsum mines 85 feet under the ground at a temperature of 38-40 degrees fahrenheit.

It is once again being offered in both four-packs of 12-ounce bottles and 750ml bottles that are scheduled to be released at both of the brewery’s Michigan taprooms located in Detroit and Grand Rapids on March 8. Retailers across the brewery’s nationwide distribution network will be releasing the stout on March 15, a full two weeks before last year’s release date of March 30.

Beginning in 2017, Founders added both packaging options for the beers in its Barrel Aged Series; previously, KBS was limited to just 12-ounce bottles.

According to Founders, there is no specific KBS Week planned for this year, but there will an option for local fans to purchase bottles of KBS in a package for $72 that will include three four-packs of 12-ounce bottles and a voucher for an 8-ounce pour of KBS 2019 that can be used in either taproom until end of business day on March 31. In addition, ticket purchasers will be able to purchase separate 750ml bottles of KBS 2019 in the Company Store.

General admission tickets for fans picking up bottles of KBS 2019 in either Detroit and Grand Rapids will go on sale on Feb. 8 via Eventbrite.
