The second variant of one of Founders Brewing Co.’s most famous stouts will be shipping to retailers across the country next month.
KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge is an 11 percent ABV imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels and brewed with Mackinac Fudge coffee and maple syrup. As the name suggests, the new beer is a variant of Founders’ Kentucky Breakfast Stout—otherwise known as KBS—an imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels that debuted in as a draft-only option in 2002 before being packaged in bottles for the first in 2003.
“We’ve been enjoying beers brewed with the Mackinac Fudge coffee in our taproom for years, and now we’re finally bringing that treatment to KBS,” said Jeremy Kosmicki, brewmaster at Founders, in a press release sent to Tenemu. “It takes the chocolate flavor traditionally found in KBS to a whole new level. Add in a hint of maple syrup and now you have an elegant, yet explosive new flavor experience.”
This will be only the second variant of KBS to be released, after Espresso KBS, a 12 percent ABV imperial stout that is brewed with “a massive amount” of both coffee and chocolate before being aged in bourbon barrels for an entire year in caves was released in November 2019.
According to Founders, KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge will be packaged in four-packs of 12-ounce bottles ($24)that are scheduled to be released at the brewery’s taprooms on Oct. 8, with bottles shipping to retailers nationwide—other than the state of Mississippi—in “early October.”
