Today is the day that retailers nationwide will be releasing this year’s incarnation of KBS.
As in years past, Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) is a 12.3 percent ABV imperial breakfast stout that has been brewed with “a massive amount” of both coffee and chocolate before being aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels for an entire year in old gypsum mines 85 feet under the ground at a temperature of 38-40 degrees fahrenheit. The stout was first released in 2004 and has historically come in between 11 and 12.5 percent ABV.
It is once again being offered in both four-packs of 12-ounce bottles and 750ml bottles. Beginning last year, Founders added both packaging options for the beers in its Barrel Aged Series. Previously, KBS was limited to just 12-ounce bottles.
In addition, the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based brewery once again held its KBS Week, a “week-long celebration of the annual release of KBS” that took place at both of Founder’s breweries located in Grand Rapids and Detroit from March 5-10, where attendees were able to purchase multiple bottles of the stout before the nationwide release.
