Next week, Founders Brewing Co. is releasing the fifth beer in its Barrel-Aged Series for 2017, Backwoods Bastard.

Backwoods Bastard 2017 is an 11.2 percent ABV scotch ale that has been aged in bourbon barrels. It was first released in 2007 and has been a member of the Grand Rapid, Mich.-based brewery’s Backstage Series before that series was changed to the Barrel-Aged Series this year.

“Born when we decided to put some of our Scotch ale, Dirty Bastard, in bourbon barrels over a decade ago, Backwoods Bastard is one of our longtime favorites,” said Jeremy Kosmicki, brewmaster at Founders, in a press release. “It may not get the hype as some of our other barrel-aged beers, but it is definitely deserving – rich, sweet and perfect for sipping.”

Backwoods Bastard is joining five other beers being released as part of Founders’ Barrel-Aged Series this year:

According to Founders, the newest incarnation of Backwoods Bastard will be packaged in both 750ml bottles ($11.99) as well as four-packs of 12-ounce bottles ($14.99) and is scheduled to be released at retailers across the brewery’s distribution network on Oct. 9.
