For the sixth time, Founders Brewing Co. will be releasing a beer to benefit ArtPrize, an art competition hosted in the brewery’s hometown of Grand Rapids, Mich.

Trigo is a 6.3 percent ABV “pale wheat lager” brewed with American hops that is a collaboration with Spain-based Mahou San Miguel. The art on the can was created by Founders culinary team member Cody Levon, “an incredible kitsch painter whose work emulates the beautiful methods of the old masters.”

“We’re strong believers that the only thing better than brewing beer is brewing beer with friends,” reads a press release. “We worked with our pals at Mahou San Miguel to bring the recipe for Trigo to life. They brought their lager-brewing expertise and we brought our hopping expertise.”

Although Trigo will be the first lager in the series as well as the second beer in the series to be canned, past releases produced for the ArtPrize competition by Founders include Mosaic Promise, Spectra Trifecta and Green Zebra.

According to Founders, Trigo will be packaged in six-packs of 12-ounce cans ($9.99) and is scheduled to be released at the brewery on Sept. 14 before being shipped to the 46 states in Founders’ distribution network by mid-September.
