While most fans of Founders Brewing Co. around the country won’t be able to buy the brewery’s first Kentucky Breakfast Stout variant until next month, it turns out Grand Rapids, Mich. residents will get to try it much earlier.

That is because the Founders has announced that it will be releasing bottles of KBS Espresso exclusively at its Grand Rapids taproom this Friday, while bottles of the stout will still be shipped to retailers in “early December.” In September, Founders indicated that the new beer would be shipped alongside the regular Kentucky Breakfast Stout in February 2020 before moving the shipping date up to December last month.

As is the case with Kentucky Breakfast Stout, Espresso KBS will be a 12 percent ABV imperial stout that is brewed with “a massive amount” of both coffee and chocolate before being aged in bourbon barrels for an entire year in caves. According to Founders, the new bottled variant will be aged on additional fresh coffee beans after being removed from barrels to give the coffee flavor “some extra oomph.”

According to a post on Founders website, Espresso Kentucky Breakfast Stout will be packaged in both four-packs of 12-ounce bottles and 750ml bottles and will have two different releases: the first will be at the brewery’s Grand Rapids taproom on Nov. 15, while the second release will be when bottles are shipped nationwide in “mid-December.”
