The first variant of Founders Brewing Co.’s Kentucky Breakfast Stout is returning to the brewery’s most popular series next month.

Espresso KBS is a 12 percent ABV imperial stout that is brewed with “a massive amount” of both coffee and chocolate before being aged in bourbon barrels for an entire year in caves.

According to Founders, the bottled variant has been aged on additional fresh coffee beans after being removed from barrels to give the coffee flavor “some extra oomph.”

The barrel-aged stout debuted exclusively at its Grand Rapids taproom in November 2019, after which both 12-ounce and 750ml bottles of the stout were shipped to retailers in early December of last year.

In a post on Founders’ website, the brewery says that KBS Espresso will be packaged in four-packs of 12-ounce bottles that are scheduled to ship to retailers across its entire distribution network starting in October.
