Firestone Walker Brewing Co. is once again releasing a popular variant of one of its most famous stouts, and this time the beer is coming just in time for Christmas.

Parabajava 2018 is a 13.2 percent ABV Russian imperial stout that uses a “special selection” of the Paso Robles, Calif.-based brewery’s popular Parabola stout (14 percent ABV) that was aged for one year in bourbon barrels. The beer was then conditioned on dark roast Brazil Oberon coffee grounds sourced from Spearhead Coffee in Paso Robles before being bottled.

Parabajava debuted as a draft-only option created for Firestone Walker’s Father’s Day brunch in 2013 held at Lot 613 in Los Angeles and was bottled for the first time in November 2015 with a re-release in August 2017. In addition, while both past releases of Parabajava have been packaged in 22-ounce bottles, the latest incarnation will be sold 12-ounce bottles like the rest of Firestone’s Proprietor’s Vintage Series releases.

The brewery has either released, announced or is working on a number of new Parabola variants in the past year, including Scotch Parabola, Coconut Rye Parabola and the draft-only Parabanilla.

In an email, Jemma Wilson, media manager for Firestone Walker, told Tenemu that Parabajava 2018 will be packaged in 12-ounce bottles ($10.99) that will be released exclusively at the brewery’s Buellton, Paso Robles and Venice locations on Dec. 15 with a six bottles per person purchase limit.
