After taking a year off, Firestone Walker Brewing Co. is once again releasing a popular variant of one of its most famous stouts, albeit with at least one major change.

As with previous releases, Parabajava 2018 is a bourbon barrel-aged 14 percent ABV Russian imperial stout that uses the Paso Robles, Calif.-based brewery’s popular Parabola (14 percent ABV) as its base before adding coffee. Parabajava debuted as a draft-only option created for Firestone Walker’s Father’s Day brunch in 2013 held at Lot 613 in Los Angeles and was bottled for the first time in November 2015 with a re-release in August 2017.

The brewery has either released, announced or is working on a number of new Parabola variants in the past year, including Scotch Parabola, Coconut Rye Parabola and Vanilla Parabola. In addition, while both past releases of Parabajava have been packaged in 22-ounce bottles, the latest incarnation will be sold 12-ounce bottles like the rest of Firestone’s Proprietor’s Vintage Series releases.

In an email, Jemma Wilson, media manger for Firestone Walker, told Tenemu that Parabajava 2018 will be a brewery-exclusive release that is tentatively scheduled for August.
