Firestone Walker Brewing Co. is working on a brand new Barrelworks release.
UnderCurrants is a 6.3 percent ABV wild ale fermented with 1.5 pounds per gallon of black currants for four months in French oak foeders. The new ale will be packaged in 375ml bottles and uses the Buellton, Calif.-based brewery’s Agrestic Ale as its base, an American wild red ale that debuted in 2014.
Started in 2006 as a way for brewers to experiment, the Barrelworks program at Firestone Walker has released more than 15 different beers to date and constitutes more than 1,500 barrels in a 7,000-square-foot building in Buellton, Calif.
According to a label filed with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), UnderCurrants was bottled on Feb. 28 and will have 2,900 cases available when it is released.
An email sent to the brewery for additional information was not immediately returned.
