Every year since 2006, Firestone Walker Brewing Co. has celebrated its anniversary with a new beer, and this year is no different.
According to labels filed with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), that creation is the appropriately named XXIII Anniversary Ale—or Twenty Three XXII Anniversary Ale—a 12.7 percent ABV ale composed of a blend of barrel-aged beers that will be packaged in 12-ounce bottles. While other details have not been released yet, the final blend for last year’s XXII Anniversary Ale was created by a team of local winemakers who chose from five different potential components: Stickee Monkee, Double Rum Helldorado, Gin Helldorado, Parabola and Bravo.
In 2006, Firestone Walker released a limited edition oak-aged strong ale named Firestone Walker X to commemorate its 10th anniversary which was composed of seven different barrel-aged beers that were then blended together. Since that first release, a new anniversary beer has been released every year that blends together different base beers in varying ratios to produce totally unique releases.
An email sent to the brewery for additional information was not immediately returned.
