Next year, a former draft-only nitro release from Firestone Walker Brewing Co. is making the jump to cans.

That beer is Nitro Merlin Milk Stout, a version of the Paso Robles, Calif.-based brewery’s Velvet Merlin oatmeal stout (5.5 percent ABV) with two changes: it includes non-fermentable lactose sugar—or milk sugar, as it is more commonly known—which essentially turned it into a milk stout. Secondly, it is carbonated using nitrogen instead of the more common CO2. The stout was released as a draft-only option across Firestone Walker’s entire distribution network in January.

In an email, Jemma Wilson, media manger for Firestone Walker, told Tenemu that Nitro Merlin Milk Stout will be and ongoing release packaged in 12-ounce cans that are scheduled to be shipped to retailers across the brewery’s entire distribution network in “early 2018.”

Update (Oct. 17, 2017) — This post was updated to include details on the release date and distribution information. It was originally published on Oct. 16, 2017.
