Futures for the newest variants of FiftyFifty Brewing Co.’s popular Eclipse imperial stout have been announced and are now on sale, although fans will not get to drink the beers until December.

For the 12th year in a row, the Truckee, Calif.-based brewery will release multiple versions of the same base imperial stout aged in multiple barrels and with different adjuncts packaged in 22-ounce bottles. Fans purchasing futures of the stout will be able to pay a 50 percent deposit on each bottle to lock down the purchase before the public release, which are differentiated by the wax color covering the crown of each release.

Unlike in previous years, there will be 10 different incarnations split into two distinct groups: Isolated Barrel Variants, which includes five variants aged in specific spirits barrels; and Experimental Barrel Variants, which includes five versions treated with different adjuncts. In addition, there are no variants that are available only by purchasing futures, meaning all of the different beers will see distribution.

The 10 different versions of the 2018 Imperial Eclipse Stout will be:

Isolated Barrel Variants:

  • 2018 Eclipse Basil Hayden Barrel — $10 per bottle deposit ($20 total price)
  • 2018 Eclipse Belle Meade Barrel — $10 per bottle deposit ($20 total price)

The Jeroboams debuted as a packaging option in 2016 and last year’s options included Eclipse Joseph Magnus Barrel, Eclipse Grand-Cru Bourbon Barrel and Eclipse Rye Cuvee Barrel Blend.

In an email, Alicia Barr, spokesperson for FiftyFifty, told Tenemu that bottles of 2018 Eclipse variants will go on sale at an event taking place at the brewery on Dec. 6, and bottles will then be released to the public at retailers across FiftyFifty’s distribution network starting on Dec. 8. In addition, a variant still to be determined is scheduled to be released at the release party that will be available exclusively to attendees.
