Starting today, people who wish to purchase beer on Facebook and Instagram pages will now have to go somewhere else.
According to a story on CNN.com, Facebook and its subsidiary Instagram have announced a ban on the sales, transfer and gifting of alcohol, even in private groups that have been specifically set up for that those purposes. The action is part of a broader change the social network will enact today that is also intended to limit content related to alcohol, e-cigarette and tobacco products.
Those actions include a number of changes, including:
- Banning any private sales, trades or gifting of alcohol products, including giveaways.
- Any alcohol-related brand pages will now be restricted to those who are 18 and over.
Facebook’s policies already prohibit the sale of alcohol and tobacco in its Marketplace.
