Fans of DuClaw Brewing Co.’s Retribution will get a chance to purchase the newest release of the seasonal beer, but they will have to act fast.
According to the Baltimore-based brewery, about 12,000 22-ounce bottles ($20) will ship this week to the DuClaw’s distributers, while the brewery itself will hold events on Oct. 22 and Oct. 23 at three of its four restaurants across Maryland where the beer will be on tap and available for growler fills. After that, you will have to wait until next October, sort of.
First brewed in 2011, Retribution is a 11.2 percent ABV imperial stout aged for six months in Heaven Hills bourbon barrels and is released each October. The beer uses a combination of chinook and geldings hops along with five different types of grains and comes in at 85 IBU.
That being said, there have been many incarnations of the bourbon barrel aged imperial stout since it was first brewed, including Divine Retribution brewed with spices, Pumpkin Retribution brewed with pumpkins, Cocoa Retribution brewed with cocoa nibs and Cocoa Vanilla Retribution brewed with cocoa nibs and vanilla beans.
According to DuClaw owner Dave Benfield, the only variant this year will be Devil’s Due, a blend of the brewery’s Devil’s Milk barleywine and Retribution that is currently scheduled for release in December.
Founded in 1996 by Dave Benfield, DuClaw Brewing Co. encompasses four different restaurant locations in the state of Maryland, and distributes in the states of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia as well as Washington, D.C.
