DuClaw Brewing Co. and Cigar City Brewing are shooting for the moon with their newest collaboration.

Impey Barbicane’s Moon Gun Moon Gun is a “Hoppy Session Amber” that comes in at 5 percent ABV. DuClaw told Tenemu that the beer was brewed on Jan. 9 at its Baltimore-based brewery. The beer uses cascade, centennial, Columbus and Pacific jade hops as well as pale malt, flaked oats, CaraAroma, melanoidin malt, and torrified wheat.

“Eccentric brewing geniuses from DuClaw Brewing Company in Baltimore, Maryland and Cigar City Brewing in Tampa, Florida, combined their resources and aimed for the heavens with this highly drinkable Hoppy Session Amber ale,” says the marketing material. “A thrust of roasted malt with sparks of caramel launches your palate into a rocket ride of American hop flavor & aroma accented by herbal, tea-like notes.”

The name of the beer is inspired by the 1865 Jules Verne novel From The Earth To The Moon, in which the protagonist Impey Barbicane builds a large gun to propel he and two other men on a trip to the moon.

According to DuClaw, Impey Barbicane’s Moon Gun will be packaged in 12-ounce bottles and begin shipping on Feb. 9 and will be available across DuClaw’s entire distribution network, which after the recent addition of North Carolina includes six states plus the District of Columbia.
