Looking to expand the company’s eastern reach, the Deschutes Brewery out of Bend, Ore. announced today its intent to begin distribution to the greater Washington D.C. area. Currently the sixth largest craft brewery in America, according to rankings published by the Brewers Association in 2013, Deschutes has signed on with the Reyes Beverage Group and will work with subsidiaries Premium Distributors of Virginia and Premium Distributors of Washington D.C. to deliver both year-round and seasonal products to the region.

Consumers in the nation’s capitol, as well as those in the Arlington and Alexandria areas of northern Virginia, can expect to see initial shipments during the week of Oct. 27. Year-round offerings of Black Butte Porter, Mirror Pond Pale Ale and Fresh Squeezed IPA will be the first to arrive, along with bottles and kegs of Zarabanda1, a new spiced saison developed with Chef José Andrés, and a limited supply of Mirror Mirror and Black Butte XXVI from the brewery’s Reserve Series.2 Deschutes will also allocate bottles of its highly sought-after barrel-aged imperial stout, The Abyss, upon release later this year.

“Our fans on the east coast have been anxious to get our beers for quite some time, so we’re happy to finally extend our reach their way,” said Stacy Denbow, expansion manager for Deschutes. The launch will focus primarily on “fan favorites” from the brewery’s portfolio, but there are plans to expand the brewery’s presence in the market later in 2015.

According to a distribution map on the brewery’s website, Washington D.C. will represent the brewery’s most eastern expansion so far.
