This year marks Deschutes Brewery’s 29th anniversary, and for the ninth year in a row, a beer will be released to commemorate the occasion.
Deschutes will be releasing Black Butte XXIX, an imperial porter that incorporates cayenne pepper, Dutched cocoa and Saigon cinnamon. Half of the finished beer was then aged in both bourbon and rum barrels before being blended together and packaged in 22-ounce bottles.
The Bend, Ore.-based brewery has released an imperial barrel-aged version of Black Butte every year since its 20th anniversary in 2008, and the beer is based on its popular Black Butte porter (5.2 percent ABV.) The brewery was originally founded as a brewpub in 1998 and is named after the Deschutes River.
According to Deschutes’ 2017 release calendar, Black Butte XXIX is scheduled to be released in June.
