For the twelfth year in a row, Deschutes Brewery will be releasing The Abyss in November.
The Abyss 2017 is an 11 percent ABV imperial stout brewed with black strap molasses, licorice and dry-spiced with both cherry bark and vanilla beans. In addition, 50 percent of the beer was aged in oak bourbon, oak wine and new oak barrels sourced from Oregon.
Last year, the Bend, Ore.-based brewery released two different variants of the stout in addition to the regular version of the imperial stout: one was aged brandy barrels from France while the other was aged in Scotch barrels that were “from a collection of distilleries in Scotland.”
According to an email sent to Tenemu, The Abyss 2017 will be packaged in 22-ounce bottles and is scheduled to be released at Deschutes on Nov. 17, with bottles shipping to retailers in the brewery’s distribution network “soon.”
