The newest incarnation of Deschutes Brewery’s birthday beer was inspired by Turkish coffee.

That creation is Black Butte XXXI, an imperial porter that incorporates chocolate, cardamom and Turkish cold brew coffee sourced from Third Rock Roasters. In an email, Erin Rankin, associate marketing manager at Deschutes, told Tenemu that the porter was also aged in bourbon barrels “for about 12 months” and will be packaged in 22-ounce bottles.

The Bend, Ore.-based brewery has released an imperial barrel-aged version of Black Butte every year since its 20th anniversary in 2008, and the beer is based on its popular Black Butte porter (5.2 percent ABV.) The brewery was originally founded as a brewpub in 1998 and is named after the Deschutes River.

According to Rankin, Black Butte XXXI is scheduled to ship to retailer across Deschutes’ entire distribution network in June.
