After 14 years, Smuttynose Brewing Co.’s head brewer is leaving.

According to a story on Seacoastonline.com, David Yarrington told the Hampton, N.H.-based brewery about his decision two weeks ago, but has agreed to stay on until the end of the year. A replacement has not yet been named.

Yarrington’s formal title is director of brewing operations. He joined Smuttynose in 2001 and was instrumental in introducing Finestkind IPA (6.9 percent ABV) in 2003, which has since become the brewery’s best-selling beer.

Smuttynose did not return an email requesting comment.
