A beer produced to raise money for a community outreach program started by Creature Comforts Brewing Co. will have a collaborator for the first time in its history.

Get Comfortable 2019 is a 7.2 percent ABV brewed with Amarillo, Comet, Pahto and Strata hops that was brewed with Santa Rosa, Calif.-based Russian River Brewing Co. This is the first time that a beer brewed for the campaign has featured a joint effort with another brewery, a practice that will be the case going forward in future years.

“When Russian River put a call out to our friends in the craft beer industry last year to raise money for the victims of the 2017 Sonoma County fires, Creature Comforts came forward to help support the cause,” said Vinnie Cilurzo, owner and head brewer at Russian River, in a press release on Creature Comforts website. “It was pretty early on in our recruiting, so naturally I was blown away that a brewery all the way from Athens, Georgia would help out. Fast forward to the 2018 Firestone Walker Invitational, Adam and I were having a beer and discussing beer and business and he told me about the Get Comfortable campaign Creature Comforts was doing. When Adam asked if we’d like to brew a beer together to help raise money for local charities in Athens, it was an easy yes.”

Creature Comforts founded the Get Comfortable program in 2015 to “unify the (Athens) business community to resource the agencies meeting the community’s most pressing needs” including hunger, homelessness, and poverty. According to the brewery, the poverty rate of 34.4 percent in Athens is double the state average and triple the national average.

Get Comfortable 2019 will be packaged in four-packs of 16-ounce cans that will ship to retailers across Creature Comforts distribution network starting Feb. 7 through April.
