It is election time, and that can only mean one thing for Clown Shoes fans: the return of Third Party Candidate.
This year’s incarnation of Third Party Candidate is a 7 percent ABV India pale lager that has been “heavily” dry-hopped with Idaho7 and sterling hops. The beer label features a depiction of Clown Shoes’ west coast ambassador, Phil Thomas.
Originally released in 2012, the first version of Third Party Candidate was a 10 percent ABV imperial amber ale brewed in collaboration with Honeoye Falls, N.Y.-based Three Heads Brewing. The final beer featured Geoff Dale from Three Heads on the label and was an even blend of a beer from each brewery: Clown Shoes’ Eagle Claw Fist imperial amber ale (8 percent ABV) and Three Heads’ Loopy Oatmeal red ale (6.6 percent ABV.)
According to a post on Clown Shoes’ Facebook page, Third Party Candidate is packaged in 22-ounce bottles and will be shipping to retailers in the brewery’s distribution network this week.
Update (June 22, 2016) — This post was updated to include details on the release date. It was originally published on March 31, 2016.
