A new release from Clown Shoes Beer incorporates an ingredient that is not normally associated with stouts.
The Boston-based company will be releasing Almond Flour Stout, a 10 percent ABV imperial stout brewed with almond flour and “other natural flavors.” Almond flour is made by grinding up almonds—sans skin—and is used in a number of different foods, including almond macarons, marzipan and almond paste.
“Almond flour mixed with liquid (usually water) is how you make Almond Milk,” said Bryan Doran, director sales and development at Clown Shoes, in an email to Tenemu. “Because labeling it as almond milk was considered confusing to the customer because it has no lactose, we decided to provide a full description on the label.”
According to Doran, Almond Flour Stout will be packaged in 22-ounce bottles that are scheduled to released at retailers exclusively in the state of California in “in the next couple weeks.”
