Clown Shoes Beer has selected a beer named after the Greek God of blacksmiths, metals and volcanoes to be its next Texas-state exclusive release.

Hephaestus is a 14 percent ABV bourbon barrel-aged Russian imperial stout that uses the Ipswich, Mass.-based company’s Fistful of Unidragon (14 percent ABV) as a base before adding espresso from Finca Santa Barbara beans sourced from Apaneca, El Salvador. The new beer is a collaboration between Clown Shoes, beer bar The Hay Merchant and Blacksmith Coffee, which ‘pulled 1,000 shots of espresso and packaged them air tight” for use in the beer. Both The Hay Merchant and Blacksmith Coffee are based in Houston.

Hephaestus will be the forth Texas-only release for Clown Shoes, following A Fistfull of Unidragon Russian imperial stout, The Good, The Bad and the Unidragon Russian imperial stout (14 percent ABV) and Josh the Revelator IPA (7 percent ABV), all three of which were released in 2015.

According to a post on Clown Shoes’ Facebook page, Hephaestus will be packaged in 22-ounce bottles, with approximately 200 cases filled, and will ship to retailers in April.
