There is a new Loonidragon coming, but you will need to be in Minnesota to get it.
Clown Shoes Beer will be releasing Loonidragon 2017, a 13 percent ABV Russian imperial stout that has been aged in rum barrels before being bottled. This is the third incarnation of the stout, after Itasca Loonidragon (14.5 percent ABV) debuted in 2014 after being aged in bourbon barrels and Itasca Loonidragon 2016 (13 percent ABV), a Russian imperial stout aged in “bourbon barrels reconditioned with Bowmore 12 year” whisky was released in February.
The base beer of all three Loonidragon releases is the Ipswich, Mass.-based company’s Blaecon Unidragon (12.5 percent ABV), which was first released in 2011.
According to a label filed with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), Loonidragon 2017 will be packaged in 22-ounce bottles and will be shipped exclusively to the state of Minnesota. An email sent to the brewery for additionally information was not immediately returned.
