Asheville, N.C.-based Lexington Avenue Brewery has been acquired by CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective, but that is only part of the story.
The company will be launching an innovative concept named The CANarchy Collaboratory in the facility which will “specialize in cutting-edge flavors and brewing methods; as well as creating limited-edition, small-batch collab beers from leading craft breweries both in Asheville and throughout the country,” according to a press release. In addition, the space will feature events involving artists, chefs and musicians from the local Asheville community when it opens in March 2019.
“It’s gonna be f*cking rad,” said Dale Katechis, Oskar Blues founder, in a press release. “We opened our Brevard brewery back in 2012 and were immediately embraced by the great people of Western North Carolina. We look forward to planting more roots in this beautiful place and giving back by further servicing the local community.”
Lexington Avenue Brewery joins Cigar City Brewing, Deep Ellum Brewing, Oskar Blues Brewery, Perrin Brewing Co., Squatters Craft Beer and Wasatch Brewery as part of the “disruptive collective of like-minded brewers dedicated to bringing quality and innovative flavors to beer drinkers in the name of independent craft beer” that was founded in 2015 and funded by Fireman Capital Partners.
Founded in 2010, by Mike Healy, Lexington Avenue Brewery is known for brewing its creations in a 15 barrel brewhouse with regionally sourced ingredients. The CANarchy breweries produced approximately 350,000 barrels of beer last year and was named the ninth largest U.S. craft beer company for 2017 by the Brewers Association.
According to the press release, CANarchy will be investing money into a “significant renovations” to the current layout in order to allow for both increased seating as well as increased brewing capacity. In terms of brewing,The CANarchy Collaboratory will be headed by Wayne Wambles from Cigar City Brewing, who has brewed more than 150 collaborations during his career.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
