Burnside Brewing Co. has gone elemental with its newest beer.

The Portland, Ore.-based brewery will be releasing Blueberry Mint Saison, a 6.9 percent ABV French-style farmhouse ale that is brewed with pilsner, Vienna, and carapils malts as well as EKG hops. In addition, blueberries, local honey and “a cold side infusion” of mint has been added to the beer.

“Inspired by a Kombucha drink with a similar profile, Burnside’s brewers set out to create a refreshing but complex beer with an interesting flavor profile,” said a press release. “This ale is fermented at slightly higher temperature than normal with Blueberries and local Honey added at conditioning along with a cold side infusion of a “mint tea.” This gives the beer a slightly tart and fruity quality with a subtle hint of mint freshness.”

Blueberry Mint Saison is the first of four releases in Burnside’s new Elemental Scale Series, which will all be one-off limited edition beers, all of which will be packaged in 22-ounce bottles. The new beer is scheduled to be released at an event on May 7 at the Burnside Brewing Pub next week, with bottles shipping to retailers immediately after.
