Brewery Ommegang and HBO will be marking the Season 8 return of Game of Thrones by releasing a new beer, For The Throne, on March 8, 2019.
As early as 2012, Brewery Ommegang and HBO have highlighted Game of Thrones with special brews. Previous seasons brought beers such as Valar Morghulis, Three-Eyed Raven Saison, and the Royal Reserve Collection which culminated with the Royal Reserve Gift pack featuring all four of the brews.
According to a post on Brewery Ommegang’s website, For the Throne is fermented with both pinot grigio and viognier grape juices before being bottle conditioned with Champagne yeast. It also uses pilsner and carapils malts and is hopped with Bravo and Saaz varietals.
Based on communications with the brewery, For the Throne is a 9.5 percent ABV ale that will be available for $14.99 in 750ml bottles starting March 8 at the brewery. The brewery release will be followed by a full bottle and draft distribution in early April.
There is not a purchase limit established by the brewery at this time.
