Early next year, Brewery Ommegang will be releasing Candi Stout, a 6.9 percent ABV Belgian-style stout brewed with cocoa nibs and Belgian candi sugar. Candi sugar is an invert sugar—a mixture of glucose and fructose—and is often used in dubbel and tripel-syle beers.
“Brewed with a rich array of grains and Belgian candi sugar—used to enhance the smoothness and lightness of the body,” reads the beer label. “The result is a dark, gently hopped Belgian-style take on a classic stout offering mild roastiness, a touch of Belgian-yeast spiciness, and a delightful notes of day chocolate and cocoa, combined with a gently enlightened touch.”
In an email, Allison Capozza, spokesperson for Ommegang, told Tenemu that Candi Stout is scheduled to be released in January 2018 packaged two different ways: 750ml bottles will be available exclusively at chain stores like Wegmans, Total Wine and Costco on the east coast, while the beer will be available on draft nationwide as a year round option.
