After a one year hiatus, Boulevard Brewing Co.’s Rye On Rye is returning this month.

As with previous incarnations, Rye On Rye is a 12 percent ABV ale brewed with German rye, English crystal rye, Cara 50 and Munich malt, brown sugar, dark brown sugar and dark candi syrup as well as Citra, Magnum and Styrian Golding hops. The beer was aged in freshly-emptied barrels that previously held Templeton Rye whiskey before being blended back in with 33 percent fresh beer to produce the final product.

Rye On Rye has been released twice before in 2010 and 2015, and there have been a number of variants released since then, including Rye-on-Rye “X” Sazerac Cocktail (11 percent ABV) and Rye On Rye On Rye (14.5 percent ABV.)

According a post on the Kansas City, Mo.-based brewery’s website, Rye On Rye will be packaged in four-packs of 12-ounce bottles as well as 750ml bottles that are scheduled to be released in the greater Kansas City area on Jan. 9, with other markets in Boulevard’s distribution network following “in the coming weeks.”
